Alternative sources of clinical input
You are not obliged to use the psychotherapists affiliated with Lichfield Psychiatric Chambers. Below are links to the websites of reputable organisations that offer lists of clinicians that meet their registration criteria with a search function. We can recommend these organisations but we cannot recommend any individual clinician you might locate on their website, except of course if they happen to also be affiliated with us (see clinician page).

Guidance on driving
Most people with common mental health conditions are fit to drive and do not need to inform the DVLA. It is not common for patients to lose their ability to drive, but it can happen. As a general rule you do not need to inform the DVLA unless your mental health disorder, or the treatment for it, affects your ability to drive safely. However, if either of these scenarios apply to you, you must inform the DVLA or may be subject to a hefty fine and issues with your insurance should there be an accident. There are some conditions that must be reported to the DVLA whether you feel it affects your driving or not. These are mostly confined to the major psychiatric disorders that involve mania, psychosis, and significant substance misuse (drugs and alcohol). You can find a full list of conditions and guidance on reporting it at https://www.gov.uk/health-conditions-and-driving/find-condition-a-to-z. If you have to report your condition it should be done using this form: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/673b6728ed0fc07b53499b24/m1-online-confidential-medical-information.pdf). If you hold a Group 2 license (trucks and lorries) a stricter standard may apply to you in some areas, but as a rule of thumb it is similar to those that apply to Group 1 licensed rivers (cars and motorbikes).
ADHD and driving. As a general rule, you only need to inform the DVLA if the ADHD, or the treatment thereof, affects your ability to drive safely.
We will do a driving risk assessment as a standard part of your comprehensive assessment and at each review. If we feel you need to contact the DVLA, we will advise you to do so. However, if we have concerns that you continue to drive against this advice, we may be obliged to contact the DVLA directly about your case. We rarely have to do this, and we will always inform you if we are going to do so. Only in exceptional circumstances will we inform you only after having done so. If you have informed the DVLA, this does not automatically mean that your license with be suspended. They will seek additional information and assess your fitness to drive before doing so, unless your condition mandates a driving suspension for a set period of time. You can find more information on the process here: https://www.gov.uk/driving-medical-conditions/what-happens-after-you-tell-dvla.
