All our consultations and treatments are conducted via a remote video link. This approach enables us to operate without the overheads of maintaining physical premises, which in turn helps to reduce both travel and assessment costs for our patients.
ADHD support
Upon contacting our service, you will be offered a complimentary, no-obligation 15-minute pre-discussion with one of our Consultant Psychiatrists. The purpose of this conversation is to explore whether our service aligns with your requirements. There will be no “sales pitch”, and you will not be asked to make an immediate decision. Instead, you are encouraged to take your time and consider your options at your own pace.
If you decide to proceed with an assessment, we will provide you with links to register your case and complete an initial clinical screening. Depending on your chosen option, you may also receive a link to share with individuals who know you well. This allows them to offer their observations regarding your ADHD symptoms, in line with national guidelines for obtaining collateral history.
Once all questionnaires have been returned, we aim to schedule your full ADHD assessment within eight weeks. The assessment typically lasts between three and four hours and includes a detailed developmental history, a structured clinical interview using the DIVA-5 tool for adult ADHD diagnosis, and the development of a personalised treatment plan.
After your assessment, you will receive a comprehensive report detailing the findings and recommendations. This report will also be shared with your GP to facilitate ongoing care and support.
Psychiatry
While our clinic places a particular emphasis on adult ADHD and post-trauma conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), we are committed to offering comprehensive assessment and treatment services for a broad spectrum of general adult psychiatric conditions. These include, but are not limited to, depression and anxiety disorders.
Our assessment process for general adult psychiatric conditions closely follows the approach used for ADHD assessments, with the exception of the structured clinical interview specific to ADHD, which is omitted. Collateral history is typically not gathered unless it is deemed relevant to your case.
Assessments for both diagnosis and treatment generally last for approximately 1.5 hours. During this time, we will conduct a thorough developmental history and a detailed clinical interview. This process enables us to formulate a tailored treatment plan that addresses your individual needs.
Following your assessment, a comprehensive report will be prepared and provided to both you and your GP.
Please note that we do not undertake medico-legal work or prepare reports intended for compensation claims or other civil/criminal proceedings. However, you are welcome to share our clinical reports with any party you have instructed to address these matters on your behalf.
Psychotherapy
Our affiliated psychotherapists provide an extensive range of specialist, evidence-based talking therapies designed to support individuals after trauma, such as those experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as those living with mood conditions including anxiety and depression. The support offered is flexible and can be tailored to your unique needs, ranging from low intensity interventions suitable for mild to moderate issues, to high intensity, multi-modal interventions appropriate for complex trauma and presentations.
We also offer interventions for adult ADHD, with both low intensity options and high intensity approaches available. These interventions are specifically tailored to address the differing needs of adults with ADHD, ensuring support is personalised and effective.
If you are interested in our services, you may request a full assessment directly, or opt for a free 15-minute pre-discussion with a psychotherapist. This initial discussion is offered with no obligation and is an opportunity to discuss whether our services are suitable for your needs.
Typically, assessments last between 1 and 1.5 hours. In more complex cases, the assessment may be conducted across several sessions to ensure a thorough understanding of your situation. Following assessment, your therapist will work with you to develop an agreed treatment plan. Treatment usually involves weekly sessions, though the frequency can be adjusted to suit your individual circumstances and requirements.
Preparing for your assessment. All our assessments are conducted virtually via a video link.
- You will receive a link for your appointment in advance. Please make sure the link works before the appointment and contact us if there are any issues.
- You will need to ensure that you are in a private setting with good internet connectivity and audiovisual equipment. Although possible to do this from a mobile phone, it may not be comfortable for you, and we do not recommend it. Regrettably we will not be able to conduct the assessment if you are not in a private setting.
- You should allow 4 hours for ADHD assessments, 2 hours for a general psychiatry assessment and 45 minutes for review appointments just in case they overrun.
- Ensure the space is well lit and avoid sitting with your back to a bright light source like a window with the curtains open, as you may only be visible in silhouette.
- Dress casually as you would for going to see your GP. Regrettably we cannot proceed with any appointment if you are not appropriately dressed.
- You are welcome to bring someone to the appointment with you for support and/or to provide collateral information. They can either be physically with you or join remotely via the same link we sent you. Please just inform us at the start of the interview if they are joining remotely so that we can look out for them in the virtual waiting room and invite them into the meeting.
The assessment on the day. Please join the meeting 5-10 minutes before it is due and use the option of testing your equipment if it is available to you.
- Your clinician will start by introducing themselves and confirming your identity.
- The clinician will then check if you understand the nature of the assessment and whether you consent to it.
- If you feel the need to record the assessment, you are welcome to do so but you MUST please inform your clinician that you are doing so. We do not normally record sessions from our side and will only do so with your explicit consent and after you have signed a consent form. Failure to inform your clinician that you are recording a session will result in a termination of the clinical service to you.
- All assessments normally begin with asking your view on the issues that brought you to us and your clinician will explore those with you to the depth that is needed to formulate your case and agree a treatment plan. In trauma cases we will not dig deeper at the first assessment than needed to achieve these initial aims, as we realise this can be very painful.
- After the clinician is content they understand the issues that brought you to us sufficiently, they will normally explore your personal history and background sensitively to identify any factors that may predispose you to the issues or maintain them. We are aware that this may be painful for some and always deeply personal and assure you we are exploring it for a reason. If there are painful experiences in your past that you do not feel ready to share at your first assessment, please give us an indication (if you feel able) that they are present but that you would like to share them when you feel ready. We will not press you on this but it is helpful for us to be aware that there are issues present that need exploration in the future when you are ready. The issues we normally explore in this phase are your childhood, relationships, past medical and psychiatric history, family history, employment history and your relationship with substances past and present.
- If needed, the clinician will then go on to discuss any issues of risk to self or others not previously explored.
- In ADHD assessments a structured clinical interview (DIVA-5) will be the next step to confirm or exclude the diagnosis formally.
- After the assessment phase is concluded, the clinician will give you their clinical opinion/ formulation and you will be given ample time to asks questions.
- The last phase is to agree a treatment plan and risk management plan (if needed) and you will have ample time for questions.
After the assessment. You clinician will prepare a full report and send a copy to you and your GP. We aim to do so within two working weeks. They will also complete the tasks agreed and keep you updated. If required, they will arrange a follow-up appointment.
